“Get excited about the future the past won’t mind.”

As a creative, I am moving on in new directions. In November 2022 I launched Goodchild Art. I have been developing my painting skills and creating artwork pieces to launch a new direction in Fine Art.

I love the ocean, in fact anything nautical, I have been influenced by it all my life. The colours and drama of the ever-changing light. Boats, marinas, beaches, sea life and of course the big blue and how it creates so many patterns, textures and colours reflecting the weather. There is always something new to look at. Currently, my work is focused on the Hebridean Islands and the West Coast of Scotland.

I enjoy painting in Acrylic on canvas using a combination of techniques I have practiced and discovered to create marks that represent the textures and light of the subject, broad brush marks and more detailed palette knife work. Many years ago most of my painting was initially for Architectural Illustrations but I wanted to produce something entirely creative and to paint in a very different way. I wanted scale and drama and inspired by the work on display in the Art Galleries of Edinburgh I bought a variety of paint and canvas and started to discover a new creative direction. It has taken several years of developing and practicing skills, very many of these I already possessed, they just needed to be “re-calibrated” for a different use.

I knew exactly what I wanted to paint, the coast and islands have everything I need.
