I had some time to fill but the rain was pouring down so I jumped into a taxi and headed for the National Museum of Scotland. I had wanted to visit for months after reading about the multi million pound re-development. The Grand Hall is stunning, what an amazing place to spend some time on a wet afternoon and it’s FREE. Packed with cleverly displayed exhibits from all over the world, there is so much to see including antiques, fashion, steam engines and the fantastic lighthouse lamps designed by the Stevenson family. But my favourite is the Kingdom of the Scots and those brilliant little “Norse” chessmen found in the sand on the isle of Lewis in 1831. Lastly I searched for the “Great Cake” at the 1st floor cafe! It’s worth going in to the museum just to sit in the cafe and soak up the atmosphere.
