Introduction

Providing a unique location from which to enjoy a visit to Edinburgh, the apartment occupies the raised ground floor of what was a traditional town house on Northumberland Street. We are sure you will enjoy the grandeur and history of this 1807 Georgian building.

Location

Northumberland Street is a quiet mainly residential street within the city centre. The city centre shopping streets, visitor attractions and business districts are all within an easy walk. A few minutes walk in the opposite direction leads you down to the more relaxed atmosphere of Stockbridge which is full of fascinating artisan shops, bars and restaurants.

History

The Major’s Apartment
As well as the rich architectural history, the apartment was previously the home of a British Army Major who became the business manager of the Edinburgh Military Tattoo for over 20 years until his retirement. He is widely recognised for developing the event into the great international spectacle that it is today.

Renovation

The apartment has recently undergone extensive renovation being careful to preserve all of the fantastic original period features such as marble fireplaces and fine cornice and plaster work. The main drawing room (lounge) has fully restored tall Georgian windows and shutters, beautiful high ceilings and a bowed wall. Wide plank oak floors, limestone tiles and granite all add a touch of luxury to this spacious accommodation.
